Bath repair at your home in AB12

We have repaired just about every kind of bath damage: dropped-bottle chips, plughole rust, acrylic cracks and impact holes. Each is repaired in place. Our technicians work on pressed steel enamel, cast iron enamel and roll-top & freestanding, and common reasons people contact us are chips under the taps and a hole punched through by something heavy.

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. It normally takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the next day.

Landmarks near Portlethen

Our clients here include homes close to Portlethen Parish Church, Portlethen Academy and Portlethen Primary School and the streets around them. There is a railway station in Portlethen itself: Portlethen station. Well-known places in the area include Blairs College (3.3 miles north-west) and Pitfoddels Castle (3.8 miles north). Should you replace it?

Replacing a fitted bath normally involves a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and disposing of the old one. A repair deals only with the damage in a single visit.

Honest limits

We will not take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through

What we are called out for in AB12

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, a chip that reaches the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

The things clients usually mention when they call include:

  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • A chipped rim or side
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail

DIY kit or professional repair?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.
