Surface repairs across DN4

How bath repair works in DN4

We repair just the damaged spot and colour-match it to the bath, which costs far less than replacing a fitted bath. You can normally use the bath the following day. We regularly repair cast iron enamel, pressed steel enamel and whirlpool & spa baths, and the jobs we see most are a chip where the taps sit and snagging damage from a refit.

On the day, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job usually takes a few hours. We clean up when we are done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

Pricing in DN4

Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why choose Surface Doctor

  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited

How to get a price

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through.

Why repair rather than replace?

A repair makes sense whenever the damage is localised. It’s a fraction of the cost of a new bath and fitting, it’s done in one visit, and nothing else in the room changes.

What your quote should include

  • A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Aftercare advice
  • When it can be used again

What a repair cannot fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Exposed steel rusts fast, especially around the waste, so repair chips early.

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. There is no charge for travel to DN4. The price depends on:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How much damage there is
  • Doing more than one item at once

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

Quotes from your photos

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • What it’s made of, if you know

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed price back. There is no charge for the quote and you are under no obligation.

DN4: your questions answered

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time that suits you.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

Will I be able to see the repair?

On a glossy bath, you will struggle to find it. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, frequently. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes, we match coloured baths too. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes, very frequently. We take it back to sound metal, seal it, fill it and match the colour.
