Our bath repair service in EX33

Bath repair is our most common job. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all repaired in place, normally in one visit. We’re often asked to fix a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting and deep scratches in acrylic, on cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and roll-top & freestanding.

On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take two to three hours for most chips. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. Once it has cured, generally by the following day, the bath is ready to use.

Cost

Prices start from £95. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

How to get a price

To get a price, send two or three pictures through our quote form or ring us. We will say straight away whether it can be repaired.

Near you in Braunton

Locally, our jobs take us to homes close to St Brannock's Church, Braunton Academy and London Inn, among other places. For rail, the closest station is Barnstaple station, roughly 4.9 miles south-east of the centre. Further afield, we also cover the area around Braunton and District Museum (less than half a mile south-west) and Tapeley Park (4.7 miles south). Not far away are Horsey Island and Braunton Burrows.

Should you replace it?

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: tiles along the rim generally crack when it comes out, a new panel is often needed, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. A repair skips all of it.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby

Give the repair the full curing time we recommend before using the bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. Prices are worked out job by job, from your pictures. What matters most is:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The material and finish
  • The colour and finish to match
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Compared with replacing, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

How to get a fixed price

Phone photos are fine. Just make sure we can see:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

Send us photos of the damage and one of the entire item, with your EX33 postcode, and we will come back with a fixed quote.
