How bath repair works in PA16

We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. The method changes with the material: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. We’re frequently asked to fix rust by the waste and overflow and damage done while the bathroom was being fitted, across roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and whirlpool & spa baths.

Once we’re through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. We mask off everything nearby, the job takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Cost

Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

Repairing versus replacing

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. A repair keeps it in place.

What affects the price in PA16

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including PA16. The price reflects:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • What the surface is made of

Compared with replacing, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Send pictures for a quote

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath, we can give you a fixed price.

Common problems we fix in PA16

Glass and heavy bottles cause more chips than anything else, closely followed by shower heads. Fittings cause damage too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail
  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • A chip where the taps sit

When a repair isn’t the answer

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
