About bath repair in SR1
We see every kind of bath damage: dropped-bottle chips, plughole rust, acrylic cracks and impact holes. Each is repaired in place. We regularly repair whirlpool & spa baths, pressed steel enamel and cast iron enamel, and common reasons people contact us are deep scratches in acrylic and rust spots around the plughole.
We begin by going over the job with you. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. It normally takes a morning or an afternoon, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.
- We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
- Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
- We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
- The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
- Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.
What it costs in SR1
Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. A repair generally costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Around Sunniside
Typical jobs here are in homes near Bethesda Free Church, Mowbray Park and Argyle House School and the streets around them. Other local landmarks include The Londonderry Public House (within half a mile west), Hudson Road Primary School (under half a mile south-east) and St Anthony's Girls' Catholic Academy (0.7 miles south-west). Sunniside has its own railway station: Sunderland station. Further afield, we also cover the area around Sunderland Maritime Heritage (less than half a mile north-east) and Sunderland Eye Infirmary (1.2 miles south). For a walk, there is Cleadon Hills and WWT Washington.
Signs you need bath repair
Most bath damage comes from something dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, any chip down to the metal will start to rust.
People generally call us when they notice one of these:
- Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
- Chips on the rim or sides
- Cracks in an acrylic bath
- A hole punched through by something heavy
When we’d advise against a repair
We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
- A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
- Metal that has corroded all the way through
For landlords and businesses
Hospitality businesses cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.
We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.
Different materials, different repairs
Composite and resin
Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.
Can I fix it myself?
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.
A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.
Questions from SR1
Do you cover SR1?
Yes. We work across the UK and travel to SR1 and the rest of Sunderland. Send photos and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.
Is a repair better than a new one?
Normally, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.
Is there a call-out fee?
Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.
What about rust by the waste?
Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.
Is a bath repair permanent?
Yes, if it’s prepared properly and the bath is sound. It carries our one-year guarantee.
Can you price it without visiting?
Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos can’t show what we need.
Will you leave a mess?
We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.
