Bath and surface repairs in TD3

Based in TD3? We cover Gordon and Westruther and every street in between, repairing in place.

How bath repair works in TD3

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, while cracks in acrylic grow each time the bath moves. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. We’re frequently asked to fix chips along the edge of the bath and damage beneath the taps, across roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and cast iron enamel.

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the work takes two to three hours for most chips. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Repair or replace?

Many people think a damaged bath means a new one. Normally it does not: a proper repair gives it years more use, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement.

Different materials, different repairs

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. There’s no area surcharge for TD3. What changes the price is:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Quotes from your photos

Two or three clear pictures are typically enough. Try to include:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Where you are, by postcode

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos through our quote form or ring us. We will say immediately whether it can be repaired.

How the damage happens

A bath gets knocked about more than you’d think: bottles, shower heads and razors are dropped every day, and taps and wastes are tightened against the surface. Over time, chips and rust spots are almost inevitable.

Clients usually contact us about:

  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting
  • Rusty patches near the plughole

Common questions in TD3

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this frequently. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Normally by the following day, though it depends on what we have done.

How invisible is a bath repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour matched repair is very hard to spot. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

How quickly can you book me in?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Do the materials smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.
