Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic-capped trays are lighter, so a firm base is essential. Cracks and scratches can be repaired.

Stone resin

Stone resin trays are popular because they’re rigid and low-profile. They need a flat, solid base, and repairs are matched to the gel coat.

About our shower tray repair in Glencraig

A cracked or chipped shower tray doesn’t always need replacing. If it’s firmly supported, we can repair it where it is, saving you the cost and mess of a new one. Typical jobs include chips or cracks by the plughole and cracks running from the waste, across ceramic, acrylic and stone resin.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we will sort it.

What affects the price in Glencraig

Repairs from £95. There’s no charge for travel to Glencraig. The price depends on:

  • The material
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How many areas need work
  • Unusual colours or finishes

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Getting a price from pictures

Before you send photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Should you replace it?

A new tray can be cheap, but fitting it isn’t: removing the screen, breaking out tiles, relaying the base and re-tiling. A repair is one visit. Prices start from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Common problems we fix in Glencraig

On timber floors, movement can crack a tray, especially if the tray wasn’t bedded properly. On concrete, an uneven base is the usual cause.

Look out for these signs:

  • A dull, stained or worn surface
  • Chips on the edges
  • Damage around the waste
  • A tray that flexes

What to look for in a quote

  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Who will actually do the work
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers

Our hiring checklist

Keeping it looking good

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Ventilate the room after showers
  • Don’t use strong acids or bleach
  • Store bottles off the tray
  • Check the seal every few months

Wait the full curing time before you shower. After that, gentle cleaning and good ventilation keep it in good shape.

If the tray creaks or moves, get it checked, before it cracks.

How it works

We turn up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. Most visits take a few hours, or most of the day to resurface the whole tray, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. We check the tray is firmly supported and find the cause of any crack.
  2. We clean and prepare the damaged area or the entire tray.
  3. We fill and reinforce chips and cracks, then sand them flush.
  4. The repair is colour matched, or the whole tray gets a new finish.
  5. The tray is left to cure and can generally be used the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Clear the area around the damage

Related advice

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

What a repair cannot fix

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’d rather say so up front. We can’t fix:

  • Multiple cracks across the tray
  • Rotten or damaged flooring underneath
  • Movement caused by a poor base, until the support is fixed

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.
