Shower tray repair for Kilve homes

Shower tray repair in Kilve without replacing anything

Every crack has a cause, and we find it first. If the tray moves, the support is fixed or flagged before we repair it, so the crack doesn’t come back. We regularly repair cast iron, enamelled steel and acrylic, and common reasons people contact us are scratches in the surface and movement when you stand on it.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Before and after: an old shower tray refinished by Surface Doctor

Should you replace it?

The tray itself may not cost much, but the work around it does: taking out the enclosure, tiling and resealing. A repair is one visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Aftercare tips

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Don’t ignore a tray that flexes
  • Clean with washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Do not stand heavy bottles on the tray
  • Keep the bathroom well ventilated

Keep scourers and harsh chemicals off the tray. Warm water and a mild detergent is enough.

Stop using the shower if the tray is cracked. Water can get through to the floor and walls, and the damage below is not visible.

FAQs for Kilve

Do you cover Kilve?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and come to Kilve and the rest of Somerset. Send pictures and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

How do I book?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

How long does it take to cure?

Normally the following day. We will confirm before we leave.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Can pets and children be at home?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, so the repair isn’t disturbed while it cures.

What happens after I send photos?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we’ll ask for another photo.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Will there be a smell?

There can be some smell while we work, so we ventilate the room. It fades as everything cures.

How it works

When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take a few hours, or most of the day to resurface the whole tray. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. The surrounding area is sheeted and masked.
  2. Any sealant in the way is cut out.
  3. We clean and key the tray, then repair the damage.
  4. We refinish the surface to match the tray.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when you can shower.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Open a window if you can

Ask for a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Different materials, different repairs

Stone resin

Stone resin is a dense, rigid material with a smooth gel coat. They crack if the base isn’t fully supported, and chips are filled and matched to the surface.

Enamelled steel

Enamelled steel trays behave like steel baths. Exposed metal can rust, so early repairs help.

What a repair can’t fix

Some jobs are not right for a repair, including:

  • Movement caused by a poor base, until the support is fixed
  • Leaks from the waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • Damage below the tray that needs a builder

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Acrylic
  • Enamelled steel
  • Cast iron
  • Ceramic
  • Stone resin

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

When to call us in Kilve

On timber floors, movement can crack a tray, particularly if it wasn’t fully bedded. On solid floors, cracks normally point to an uneven base.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed:

  • Chips or cracks by the plughole
  • Scratches from cleaning or grit
  • Staining and dullness across the tray
  • Snagging damage in a new bathroom

Before you book anyone

  • How long it needs to cure
  • What preparation is included
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Who will actually do the work
