  • Damage below the tray that needs a builder

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Before and after: an old shower tray refinished by Surface Doctor

Looking after it afterwards

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Keep heavy bottles on a shelf
  • Don’t ignore a tray that flexes
  • Replace failing sealant promptly
  • Clean with washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Keep an eye on the sealant, and reseal when it starts to fail.

Act on split sealant early. Water gets behind and under the tray and can cause damage underneath.

Our hiring checklist

Your questions about shower tray repair in Lincoln

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we have finished.

How long before I can shower?

Generally the next day. We will tell you the exact time when we finish.

Can a cracked shower tray be repaired?

Generally, as long as it does not flex. The crack is reinforced, filled and refinished.

Are there extra charges for Lincoln?

There is no separate call-out charge. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, we frequently do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Is a cracked shower tray safe to use?

It’s best to stop using it until it’s checked, in case water is getting through.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Generally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

How it works

You don’t need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. It typically takes a few hours, or most of a day for a full resurface, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We check the tray is firmly supported and find the cause of any crack.
  2. Next we clean and prepare the tray.
  3. We fill and reinforce chips and cracks, then sand them flush.
  4. The repair is colour matched, or the entire tray gets a new finish.
  5. Once cured, usually by the next day, you can use the shower.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

Can I fix it myself?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Stone resin

Stone resin is a dense, rigid material with a smooth gel coat. Poor support underneath leads to cracks, and chips are filled and matched to the surface.

Enamelled steel

Steel trays have an enamel surface like a steel bath. Chips can rust if they’re left, so it’s worth repairing early.

What affects the price in Lincoln

Prices start from £95. Each job gets its own fixed quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • The type of damage
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Whether we combine several jobs

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Send photos for a quote

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Please include:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A photo taken from further back

For a price in Lincoln, photos are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Repair or replace in Lincoln?

A new shower tray often means a new enclosure fitting, new tiling and new sealant. A repair leaves all of that untouched, at a fraction of the cost. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Compared with replacing, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good.
