Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Avoid strong bleach and descalers
  • Keep heavy bottles off the rim
  • Get chips repaired early
  • Use a heat mat for hair tools

Keep hair straighteners and heavy bottles away from the basin edge, to avoid new chips.

A chip near the waste or taps can let water into the body of the basin, which can stain the repair area. Early repair keeps it a small job.

Sink repair at your home in Church

Antique and period basins are worth repairing, and we work around makers’ marks wherever possible. Replacing them with something similar can be difficult. Common call-outs are for chips around the rim and cracks starting at the waste, in enamelled basins, Belfast and butler sinks and ceramic & vitreous china basins.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

FAQs for Church

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Do you cover Church?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Church. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is there a guarantee?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners in Church.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Just add the extra items to your pictures and you will get one combined price.

Does someone need to be in?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You do not need to watch us work.

What we do, step by step

We turn up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your pictures first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a couple of hours for most chips, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. First the basin is cleaned and the damage checked.
  2. The chip or crack is filled and shaped to match the basin.
  3. We colour-match the finish to the glaze.
  4. We polish it into the surrounding surface.
  5. Typically the basin is back in use the same day or the next.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

Advice

How we price sink repair

Prices start from £95. You won’t pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • What the surface is made of
  • The type of damage

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed quote

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

Upload a picture of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, with your BB5 postcode, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

When a repair is not the answer

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A loose basin, until it’s refixed
  • Crazing all over, which suits resurfacing
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

What we work on

  • Belfast and butler sinks
  • Antique & period basins
  • Enamelled basins

  • Ceramic & vitreous china basins

Repair or replace: which is better?

A basin cracked through and leaking needs replacing. For chips and surface damage, repair is the better route. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.
