How we handle sink repair in New England

When a basin is worn or crazed all over, we can resurface it in place, for a fresh, even finish. We regularly repair enamelled basins, antique & period basins and vanity unit basins, and common reasons people contact us are chips on a built-in basin and chips on the rim or front edge.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once we’ve gone.

What a repair can’t fix

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Crazing all over, which suits resurfacing
  • A basin coming away from the wall (that needs refixing)
  • Plumbing leaks

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Antique & period basins
  • Enamelled basins
  • Belfast and butler sinks
  • Ceramic & vitreous china basins
  • Vanity unit basins

DIY repairs versus a professional job

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

What affects the price in New England

Prices start from £95. We do not charge extra for travel to New England. The price depends on:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The type of damage
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The material

What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Getting a price from pictures

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A wider photo showing the whole basin

Most customers in New England get their price from pictures. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Questions from New England

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Does someone need to be in?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Do you work in New England?

Yes, we do. Technicians travel to New England from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

How it works

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take a few hours, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First, we check the basin is firm and dry.
  2. The area is degreased and keyed.
  3. We build up the filler and sand it flush.
  4. We match the colour and the gloss.
  5. We tidy up and give you the curing time.

Common problems we fix in New England

Fine crazing in the glaze is typically down to age, and harsh cleaners can make it worse.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • Knocks from hair straighteners
  • An original basin worth saving
  • Crazing in the glaze
  • A chipped basin edge

What your quote should include

  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
  • Whether they match the colour on site

Choosing a repair company

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Do not overtighten taps
  • Store toiletries on a shelf
  • Get chips repaired early

Keep hair straighteners and heavy bottles away from the basin edge, to avoid new chips.

Chips near the waste or taps can let water in and stain. Repairing it early keeps the job small.

What your basin is made of matters

Composite and resin

Cast mineral and resin basins are common in vanity units. Chips and scratches can be filled and matched, with colour mixed on site.

Period and antique

Period basins frequently have marks and character worth keeping. We repair them sympathetically.
