Sink repair at your home in Portland

When a basin is worn or crazed all over, it can be resurfaced in place, giving it an even new finish. Our technicians work on vanity unit basins, enamelled basins and antique & period basins, and the jobs we see most are a crack near the taps and crazing in the glaze.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we will come back.

How to compare quotes

What affects the price in Portland

Repairs from £95. Each job gets its own fixed quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The material and finish

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You will see the full price before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Quotes from your pictures

You can take the pictures on your phone, there is no need for anything special. Ensure they show:

  • Any details about the material
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

For a price in Portland, the easiest route is pictures: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

The process

Arrival times are agreed in advance. On site, it takes a morning or an afternoon for most jobs. We leave the room clean and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We protect the area around the basin.
  2. We clean and prepare the chip or crack.
  3. It’s filled and shaped to the basin.
  4. We match the colour by hand.
  5. We polish it to match the shine and leave it to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Open a window if you can
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Ensure the area is dry

Getting a price

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

Advice

Why repair rather than replace?

A basin cracked through and leaking needs replacing. For chips and surface damage, repair is the better route. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Compared with replacing, repairing usually costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Portland: your questions answered

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners in Portland.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before and we’ll plan for it.

Can a chip in a sink be fixed?

Yes. The chip is filled, matched and polished.

Can you quote from photos?

Normally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Do you cover the entire of Dorset?

Everywhere in the UK, Portland included. There’s no extra charge for travel.

Is a crack in a basin repairable?

Surface cracks can generally be repaired. If it leaks through, replacement is normally better.

Will the price change on the day?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

What a repair can’t fix

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • A basin coming away from the wall (that needs refixing)
  • A crack that leaks right through the basin
  • Widespread crazing

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Belfast and butler sinks
  • Ceramic & vitreous china basins
  • Vanity unit basins
  • Antique & period basins
  • Enamelled basins

Different materials, different repairs

Composite and resin

Cast mineral and resin basins are common in vanity units. They repair well, and the colour is mixed to suit.

Vitreous china

Vitreous china is fired ceramic with a glassy glaze. Repairs are polished to match that glaze.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
