Keeping it looking good

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Use pH-neutral cleaners on stone
  • Always use a trivet for hot pans
  • Wipe up spills quickly
  • Dry around the sink and joints

Keep joints and the sink edge dry, especially on laminate and wood.

Edge chips can get bigger, and on laminate, water can get into the core. An early repair prevents it.

The process

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you know when to expect us. Once we are there, the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage in most cases. We leave the room clean.

  1. We look at the damage and the worktop’s finish.
  2. We cut back any burnt or loose material.
  3. The area is filled and shaped.
  4. We recreate the pattern, flecks or grain.
  5. It’s finished to the same sheen and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Getting a price

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them to us with your postcode, and you will get a fixed quote back. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation.

What worktop repair costs

Prices start from £95. Each job gets its own fixed price. This is what makes a difference:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The material
  • Access to the area

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Ashfield. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Send pictures for a quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • A wider photo showing the entire worktop
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Something in shot to show the size

Send us pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, and tell us you are in Ashfield, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

Do you need worktop repair in Ashfield?

Most chips are on edges and corners, often when something heavy catches the edge.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Scorch marks from pans
  • Damage from fitting or building work
  • Scratches and knife marks
  • Damage to a stone worktop

Choosing a repair company

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Repairing versus replacing in Ashfield

Stone and quartz tops are templated and cut to fit, so replacing a section takes time and money. A repair takes a few hours. Prices start from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

What your worktop is made of matters

Granite and stone

Granite and stone chip at edges and cut-outs. The repair is filled and polished to the stone’s finish.

Quartz

Quartz is tough, though edges can chip. Chips are filled with tinted resin and polished.

What a repair can’t fix

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • A cracked stone top that’s unsupported
  • Laminate that has blown or swollen
  • A worktop that has moved because its support has failed

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Common questions in Ashfield

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders in Ashfield.

Do you repair quartz?

Yes, often. The repair is colour matched and polished to the quartz’s finish.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

What do you need from me?

Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. Send pictures with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so let us know about it.

Can a scorch mark be fixed?

Usually. A picture lets us check what’s possible.
