Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Keep joints and edges dry
  • Don’t cut directly on the worktop
  • Keep wood oiled
  • Do not knock pans against the edge

Hot pans should always go on a trivet. Heat can mark quartz and stone as well.

A burn or chip can get worse with daily use particularly around the sink. An earlier repair is a smaller repair.

Worktop repair in Astbury without replacing anything

Laminate, quartz, granite, solid surface and wooden worktops can all be repaired, with colour and pattern matched by hand. The worktop stays in place. Common call-outs are for damage to a stone worktop and a dent from a dropped pan, on solid surface (such as Corian), laminate and granite & marble.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once we have gone.

Astbury questions

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it normally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.

Will it make a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

Will there be a smell?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

Is there a call-out fee?

We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are frequently glad to have it sorted.

Can a quartz edge be fixed?

Yes. We repair quartz chips regularly, matched and polished.

Is a burnt worktop repairable?

Usually, yes. We remove the damaged surface, fill it and recreate the pattern.

Can you match granite flecks?

Yes, the pattern is built up by hand so it blends in.

What we do, step by step

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take a few hours, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we look at the damage and what the worktop is made of.
  2. The area is cleaned and the edges of the damage prepared.
  3. We fill with a filler suited to the material and rebuild any missing edge.
  4. We recreate the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. The surface is sealed or finished to suit the worktop.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Clear the area around the damage

When we’d advise against a repair

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Failed support under the worktop
  • Laminate that has blown or swollen
  • Deep heat discolouration in quartz, which may not fully disappear

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Solid surface (such as Corian)
  • Laminate
  • Quartz
  • Solid wood
  • Granite & marble

For landlords and businesses

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

What we’re called out for in Astbury

Cut-outs for the sink and hob are the weakest parts, and that is where cracks often begin.

Look out for these signs:

  • A heat mark or burn
  • Chipped corners
  • Chips near the sink
  • Chips in quartz or granite

What your quote should include

  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • How to care for the finish
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • What protection goes down before work starts

How to compare quotes

What your worktop is made of matters

Wood

Wooden worktops can be sanded, filled and re-oiled, with burns and dents put right.

Solid surface

Solid surface materials are uniform throughout, so scratches and burns can often be sanded out and refinished.

Why repair rather than replace?

An identical replacement may look different next to aged worktops. We match the repair to your worktop as it is today. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Astbury. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Why book with us

  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • Usually one visit, start to finish
  • One price list for the entire UK
