About our worktop repair in The Pound

The hard part of a worktop repair is matching the pattern. Colour, flecks and veining are recreated by hand. We’re often asked to fix scratches and knife marks and a damaged sink edge, across solid wood, quartz and solid surface (such as Corian).

Every job is backed for twelve months in The Pound and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

How to care for the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Keep a trivet by the hob
  • Chopping boards prevent scratches
  • Dry around the sink and joints
  • Use pH-neutral cleaners on stone

Keep joints and the sink edge dry, particularly with laminate and timber.

A chip on an edge can grow, and on laminate, water can get into the core. An early repair prevents it.

What a repair can’t fix

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Laminate that has blown or swollen
  • Deep heat discolouration in quartz, which may not fully disappear
  • Failed support under the worktop

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Materials we work on in The Pound

  • Quartz
  • Laminate
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)
  • Granite & marble
  • Solid wood

What your worktop is made of matters

Quartz

Quartz is crushed stone bound with resin. Edge chips are very common, and we fill and polish them to match the sheen.

Solid surface

Solid surface tops are the same material all the way through, so marks can frequently be sanded and refinished.

Why repair rather than replace?

Stone and quartz tops are templated and cut to fit, so replacing a section takes time and money. Repairing it is a few hours’ work. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Why book with us

  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Work done at your home or business
  • Fixed prices from your pictures
  • Colour-matched on site

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

The process

Arrival times are agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage in most cases. We leave the room clean.

  1. We look at the damage and the worktop’s finish.
  2. We cut back any burnt or loose material.
  3. The area is filled and shaped.
  4. The pattern, flecks or grain are recreated.
  5. It’s finished to the same sheen and left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

What affects the price in The Pound

Prices start from £95. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • How much damage there is
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Unusual colours or finishes

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

How to get a fixed quote

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A picture taken from further back

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.
