About our bath re-enamelling in Adlington

We do not move the bath, so the taps, tiles and plumbing aren’t touched. Most baths are done in one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee in Adlington and across Cheshire East.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • The material
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How many areas need work

Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Adlington. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

How to get a fixed quote

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

If you’re in Adlington and want a price, pictures are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Should you replace it?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.

Why us?

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Questions from Adlington

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

How soon can you come?

That depends on our diary for your area. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide, so Adlington is covered. Prices do not change with location.

Does re-enamelling smell?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You do not need to watch us work.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

Aftercare tips

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, so limescale cannot build up.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

What happens on the day

Here’s how a visit normally runs: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, do the job and tidy away. Allow the best part of a day. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and how to care for it.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

Advice

When a repair isn’t the answer

A repair is not always the answer, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
