Bath re-enamelling near Astley

Repair or replace in Astley?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Prices start from £350. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Astley. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

What you get with us

  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • Technicians who travel to you, UK-wide

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Astley

If your bath is sound but looks tired, re-enamelling is usually the most cost-effective option. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. Common call-outs are for brown or grey marks that don’t clean off and a roll-top that’s seen better days, on cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths.

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Wigan.

What affects the price in Astley

Prices start from £350. You will know the full cost before booking. We look at:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How much damage there is
  • How easy the damage is to reach

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Getting a price from pictures

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Where you are, by postcode

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed price back. Quotes are free and no obligation.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Astley

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

The process

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we’re there. Protection goes down first, then the work takes most of the day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can normally be used the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Astley: your questions answered

How soon can you come?

That depends on our diary for your area. Send pictures with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

Do you cover Astley?

We do. We send a technician to Astley for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No, it stays where it is. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room masked and ventilated.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures can’t show what we need.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, often. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

What do you need from me?

Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.

What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Store bottles off the bath

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and do not leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
