About our bath re-enamelling in Ayresome

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, resurfacing is normally the best value. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. We are often asked to fix a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping, in cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths.

Peace of mind is built in: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

How the visit works

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you are not left guessing. Once we’re there, the work takes the best part of a day. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Repairing versus replacing in Ayresome

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Prices start from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why us?

  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • No need to remove anything
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Rooms protected and left tidy

Work for landlords and builders

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send photos, the address and how to get access.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which matters when someone is living in the home.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. Each job gets its own fixed quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The material
  • What kind of damage it is

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Quotes from your photos

You can normally get a fixed price without us visiting. To make it quick:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • The material, if you know it
  • A photo taken from further back

For a price in Ayresome, pictures are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Questions from Ayresome

When can you do it?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before and we’ll plan for it.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

In most cases. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Mention it when you send pictures.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Typically, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Is the work guaranteed?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, so limescale can’t build up.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

When we would advise against a repair

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath split right through the body
  • Steel that has corroded right through

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
