Bath re-enamelling for Bishop Auckland homes

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Bishop Auckland

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We’re often asked to fix a coloured bath you want in white and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean, across basins & shower trays, Victorian roll-tops and cast iron baths.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

How to look after the repair

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, so limescale can’t build up.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Re-enamelling is one technician, typically one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

What you get with us

  • We leave the room as we found it
  • No extra charge for your area
  • Typically one visit, start to finish
  • A fixed quote before you book

See our pricing and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The material and finish
  • The colour and finish to match
  • What kind of damage it is

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Bishop Auckland. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Send pictures for a quote

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • Any details about the material
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Bishop Auckland questions

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

What happens if you find more damage?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Do you come to Bishop Auckland?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Bishop Auckland for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Do you cover the whole of County Durham?

We cover the whole UK, including Bishop Auckland and the rest of County Durham. Just include your postcode and we’ll confirm dates.

Will there be fumes?

Some odour is normal while we spray, so we ventilate the room. It fades as the coating cures.

DIY kit or professional repair?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

How it works

When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take most of the day. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Advice

Landlord and trade work in Bishop Auckland

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs in County Durham and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which matters when someone is living in the home.

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.
