About our bath re-enamelling in Coronation

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Our technicians work on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and cast iron baths, and people most often call us about wear marks under the taps and a roll-top that’s seen better days.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Coronation and across County Durham.

When we would advise against a repair

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Holes rusted through the metal

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before you book.

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays

How the visit works

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, and get on with the job, which generally takes a full day. If anything looks different from your pictures, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s usually ready the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Common questions in Coronation

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Do you cover the entire of County Durham?

Everywhere in the UK, Coronation included. There is no extra charge for travel.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, often. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Can you quote from pictures?

Nearly always. If pictures do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

For landlords and businesses

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Never use suction bath mats

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

Can I fix it myself?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

Should you replace it?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you are refitting the entire room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing usually wins. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.
