Bath re-enamelling near Bollington

Repair or replace in Bollington?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Prices start from £350. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

About our bath re-enamelling in Bollington

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. We’re often asked to fix an outdated colour you’d like to change and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping, across pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

When a repair is not the answer

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Have chips seen to early
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and don’t leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

What we’re called out for in Bollington

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. That is the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits

Yes, while we are applying the finish. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Are there extra charges for Bollington?

We don’t add a call-out fee. Your fixed quote includes everything.

When can you do it?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send pictures with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

You’ll get a fixed quote back, normally with dates to choose from. You are under no obligation.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

What do you need from me?

Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Usually, yes. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

The process

We turn up when we said we would and checks the damage against your photos first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. The work itself takes the best part of a day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

How to get a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, include your postcode and send them to us. You’ll get a fixed price, not an estimate.
