Bath re-enamelling for Boney Hay homes

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Boney Hay

The bath stays where it is, so the taps, tiles and plumbing are not touched. Most baths are done in one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. We are frequently asked to fix several chips and rust patches and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping, on Victorian roll-tops, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are covered after the visit.

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Dry the bath after use if possible, and rinse off any bath products.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Should you replace it?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Why us?

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Work done at your home or business
  • A year’s guarantee on all work

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

What we can’t put right

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

What we do, step by step

On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job usually takes the best part of a day. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Boney Hay. The price reflects:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Access to the area

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You will see the full price before booking, with nothing added on the day.

Send photos for a quote

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A photo taken from further back
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of pictures through our quote form or ring us. We’ll say straight away if a repair is the right fix.

For landlords and businesses

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs in Staffordshire and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

For anyone letting property in or around Boney Hay, we will quote for several properties at once. Send photos for each one and we’ll come back with a combined price.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Questions from Boney Hay

Are you accredited?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Typically one day, with the bath ready the day after. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send photos.

Will the new finish last?

Look after it and it lasts. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Yes, we do this regularly. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote with dates.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses across Staffordshire.
