About our bath re-enamelling in Bradenham

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. We regularly repair cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays, and common reasons people get in touch are a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and a peeling or bubbling previous coating.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we will come back.

Bradenham: your questions answered

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Does the bath have to be removed?

Not at all. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room protected and ventilated.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. The old repair comes out first, so mention it when you send photos.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

How long is the bath unusable?

Normally one day, with the bath ready the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths

DIY repairs versus a professional job

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

How to care for the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Bradenham

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, lifting by the plughole or blistering. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean

What to look for in a quote

  • Who will actually do the work
  • Aftercare advice
  • When it can be used again
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers

Our hiring checklist

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. You will not pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • The size and number of damaged areas

We do not add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Quotes from your pictures

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Repair or replace in Bradenham?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take a full day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

How to get a price

Advice

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.
