What a repair cannot fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we work on in Bunwell

Bath re-enamelling in Bunwell without replacing anything

The bath stays where it is, so the taps, tiles and plumbing are not touched. Most baths are done in one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. Typical jobs include an old resurfacing that’s failing and an outdated colour you’d like to change, in acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and cast iron baths.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

FAQs for Bunwell

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, often. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

What happens after I send photos?

You will get a fixed quote back, usually with dates to choose from. You are under no obligation.

Will the price change on the day?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before.

Common problems we fix in Bunwell

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Send us a picture if you notice any of these:

  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating

Questions to ask before you book

  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • How soon you can use it again
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • How your room will be protected

Repair or replace: which is better?

A replacement often means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, generally one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before you book.

How to look after the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

What we do, step by step

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which normally takes the best part of a day. If we find something your pictures didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Open a window if you can

How to get a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Advice

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.
