Need bath re-enamelling in Buxton?

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. Each job gets its own fixed quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • How much damage there is

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Buxton. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Quotes from your pictures

Before you send pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Details of any past repairs

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed price back. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation.

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Buxton

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We’re frequently asked to fix enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and worn patches where water runs and sits, across basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee.

What a repair can’t fix

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Basins & shower trays

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Buxton questions

Does the bath have to be removed?

Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

Can pets and children be at home?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Normally, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send photos.

Is my repair covered?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

It depends on preparation, use and care. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

What do you need from me?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Can you quote from pictures?

Yes, almost always. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.

Looking after it afterwards

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading and make the job bigger. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

How it works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. It normally takes the best part of a day, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Let us know about parking or access

How to get a price

You do not need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Related advice

Repair or replace: which is better?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Common problems we fix in Buxton

The gloss on enamel is thin, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.
