How we handle bath re-enamelling in Carlton
Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. Whether it’s an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and a coloured bath you want in white, we can typically put it right, whatever the material.

Carlton: your questions answered
Do you cover the whole of Barnsley?
Across the UK, so Carlton is covered. Prices don’t change with location.
How long will the bath be out of use?
Generally one day, with the bath ready the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.
Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?
Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before.
Are you a vetted contractor?
We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.
Do you do work for letting agents?
We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.
What does bath re-enamelling cost?
Prices start from £350. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You will get a fixed figure before you book.
Does someone need to be in?
Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.
What happens after I send pictures?
We look at the photos and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.
The process
The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes the best part of a day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to care for it.
- First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
- Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
- The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
- Primer and finish coats are applied.
- We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.
How to prepare
- Let us know if it has been repaired before
- Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
- Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
Getting a price
Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath, we can give you a fixed quote the same day in most cases.
Related advice
Should you replace it?
If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is typically much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. A repair generally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.
Why book with us
- Same prices wherever you are
- Colour mixed on the day to match
- Straight answers about what a repair can do
- Everything repaired in place
Read our prices page and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.
What bath re-enamelling costs
Resurfacing from £350. You will know the full cost before booking. We look at:
- Access to the area
- What the surface is made of
- Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
- Doing more than one item at once
We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Carlton. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.
Send pictures for a quote
A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:
- Natural light rather than flash
- Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
- A photo taken from further back
- Any details about the material
No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.
What we can’t put right
To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:
- A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
- Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
- Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.
What we work on
- Cast iron baths
- Basins & shower trays
- Victorian roll-tops
- Pressed steel baths
- Acrylic baths
What your bath is made of matters
Roll-top and period baths
We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
Cast iron
A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.
Keeping it looking good
After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
- A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
- Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
- Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, especially in hard water areas, so limescale can’t build up.
On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

DIY kit or professional repair?
If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.
For landlords and businesses
Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Carlton use us as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it costs much less than replacing.
For anyone letting property in or around Carlton, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send pictures for each one and we will come back with a combined price.
