Repair or replace in Cow Roast?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Prices start from £350. Compared with replacing, repairing normally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Bath re-enamelling in Cow Roast, done in place

If your bath is sound but looks tired, re-enamelling is generally the most cost-effective option. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Common call-outs are for lots of chips and rust spots and a roll-top that’s seen better days, on Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and cast iron baths.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Cow Roast

Previous coatings can fail too, peeling around the waste or bubbling. We strip what’s failing and start again.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • Stains that won’t shift
  • Thin, worn enamel in places

How to compare quotes

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Cow Roast

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Is my repair covered?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Can you quote from pictures?

Typically, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

In most cases. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Mention it when you send photos.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Usually one day, with the bath ready the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes a full day. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

How to look after the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
