Bath re-enamelling for Denham homes

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Denham

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. If you are dealing with chips and rust in more than one place and wear marks under the taps, we can help, on Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths alike.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll sort it.

What we’re called out for in Denham

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Stains that will not shift

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • What preparation is included
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • What protection goes down before work starts

How to compare quotes

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

How it works

On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job typically takes the best part of a day. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s generally ready the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Clear the area around the damage

How to get a price

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Have chips seen to early
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • The material and finish
  • How many areas need work
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The type of damage

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Send pictures for a quote

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To make it quick:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • One picture of the whole bath
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • What it’s made of, if you know

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.

Denham: your questions answered

What information do you need?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, often. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.

Will the price change on the day?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

For landlords and businesses

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there is no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Denham as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it usually costs far less than a refit.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing a bath typically involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, with the bath ready the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Instead of hourly rates, we price the whole job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Why us?

  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • Typically one visit, start to finish
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
