About our bath re-enamelling in Derby

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, so we do not cut corners on it. Common call-outs are for several chips and rust patches and worn patches where water runs and sits, on acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and pressed steel baths.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Can I fix it myself?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Should you replace it?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing renews the whole surface with the bath left where it is. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

What you get with us

  • Straight answers about what a repair can do

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • What the surface is made of

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed price

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

If you are in Derby and want a price, the easiest route is pictures: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Aftercare tips

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Avoid suction-cup mats

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Derby

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, with nothing wrong except the surface. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is normally as strong as ever.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • Several chips and rust patches

10 questions to ask before booking

What we cannot put right

Not everything can be repaired, and we will tell you before we start. Repairs will not solve:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

How the visit works

The work is clean and fairly quiet. Protection goes down first, then the work takes most of the day. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
