Bath re-enamelling in Didcot, done in place

We don’t move the bath, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. Most baths are done in one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. We are often asked to fix lots of chips and rust spots and a coating lifting around the plughole, on basins & shower trays, Victorian roll-tops and cast iron baths.

You are covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

The process

Once we are through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes most of the day, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • What the surface is made of
  • Access to the area
  • Whether we combine several jobs

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Getting a price from pictures

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Why repair rather than replace?

There are times replacing is better: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Didcot

Honest limits

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A bath split right through the body
  • Holes rusted through the metal

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths

Keeping it looking good

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there is no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Didcot: your questions answered

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it generally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Usually, yes. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Mention it when you send pictures.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

What information do you need?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

How do I get a price for bath re-enamelling in Didcot?

Resurfacing from £350. We give a fixed price from your photos. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your OX11 postcode.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. We resurface it in place, so the tiles and taps stay put.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside if you’d like.
