Bath re-enamelling in Dunkeswell, done in place

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without a refit. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. Common call-outs are for a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and several chips and rust patches, across pressed steel baths, acrylic baths and cast iron baths.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You will see the full price before booking.

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

What happens on the day

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job usually takes the best part of a day. We clean up when we’re done and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Dunkeswell: your questions answered

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide, and that includes Dunkeswell. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

Do you come to Dunkeswell?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Dunkeswell for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Mention it when you send photos.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

How do I book?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures can’t show what we need.

When to call us in Dunkeswell

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, lifting by the plughole or blistering. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

Common reasons people in Dunkeswell contact us include:

  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change

How to compare quotes

Landlords, agents and businesses in Dunkeswell

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

Keeping it looking good

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

What we cannot put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.
