Bath re-enamelling in Dunston without replacing anything

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. If you are dealing with staining under the taps and around the waste and several chips and rust patches, we can generally put it right, on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and acrylic baths alike.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Dunston as everywhere else we work.

Dunston: your questions answered

Can pets and children be at home?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Does the bath have to be removed?

Not at all. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room masked and ventilated.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You do not need to watch us work.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Prices start from £350. Because every job differs, we price from pictures. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted.

How do I book?

What a repair cannot fix

A repair isn’t right for every job, including:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Why repair rather than replace?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

What you get with us

  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • One price list for the entire UK

Read our prices page and resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Dunston. The price reflects:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Access to the area
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Quotes from your pictures

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Any details about the material
  • Natural light rather than flash

If you are in Dunston and want a price, the easiest route is pictures: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Have chips seen to early
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Respect the curing time we give you

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

How it works

Your technician turns up when we said we would, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. Most visits take the best part of a day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
