Bath re-enamelling in Eaton without replacing anything

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We are often asked to fix lots of chips and rust spots and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean, on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and acrylic baths.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many areas need work
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The type of damage

The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before booking, with nothing added on the day.

How to get a fixed price

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Something in shot to show the size

There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Eaton

Older baths frequently have several problems at once: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Stains that won’t shift
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • Chips and rust in more than one place

Questions to ask before you book

  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Who will actually do the work

10 questions to ask before booking

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

Eaton: your questions answered

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Will the new finish last?

Care for it and it lasts. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Typically, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Most baths are done in a day and can be used the day after. We give you timings with the quote.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. We can do the inside and outside.

Will there be a smell?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working.

How quickly can you book me in?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Is there a call-out fee?

We do not add a call-out fee. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

What a repair cannot fix

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays

How the visit works

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we’re there. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes most of the day. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Advice

Should you replace it?

A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the whole surface with the bath left where it is. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we’ll give you the exact figure.
