Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Bath re-enamelling in Exwick, done in place

The bath stays where it is, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. It normally takes one visit, and can be used again the day after. We’re frequently asked to fix an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and several chips and rust patches, in Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and acrylic baths.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Repair or replace: which is better?

There are times replacing is better: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Why Exwick clients choose us

  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • One price list for the entire UK
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • We leave the room as we found it

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Honest limits

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we work on in Exwick

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

For landlords and businesses

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we will handle the rest.

Exwick: your questions answered

Are there extra charges for Exwick?

There is no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

What information do you need?

Photos of the damage, a photo of the entire bath and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Do you work in Exwick?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Exwick and the rest of Devon. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

How long does re-enamelling take?

One day for most baths and can be used the day after. We’ll confirm timings when we quote.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.

Does re-enamelling smell?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as the coating cures.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes the best part of a day. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

How to prepare

  • Open a window if you can
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

How to get a price

To get a price, send two or three pictures using our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Advice

What affects the price in Exwick

Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Exwick. The price reflects:

  • How much damage there is
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The material and finish

The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You will see the full price before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Quotes from your pictures

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Any details about the material

Upload photos of the damage and one of the whole item, and tell us you are in Exwick, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.
