How we handle bath re-enamelling in Force Green
Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We work on cast iron baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops, and the jobs we see most are an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and thin, worn enamel in places.
A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

When a repair isn’t the answer
Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. We can’t fix:
- A metal bath with a through crack
- Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
- Holes rusted through the metal
Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.
Surfaces we repair
- Cast iron baths
- Victorian roll-tops
- Acrylic baths
- Pressed steel baths
- Basins & shower trays
What your bath is made of matters
Roll-top and period baths
We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
Pressed steel
Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.
Looking after it afterwards
A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:
- Respect the curing time we give you
- Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
- Repair dripping taps early
- Wash away dyes and oils after use
Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.
The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.
Should you replace it?
There are times replacing is better: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. Compared with replacing, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

- Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
- We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
- Primer and finish coats are applied.
- We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Advice
DIY kit or professional repair?
If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.
A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.
