About our bath re-enamelling in Gildingwells
After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. We work on acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays, and common reasons people contact us are a roll-top that’s seen better days and stains that won’t shift.
Every repair is covered by our one-year guarantee.

Questions from Gildingwells
How durable is a resurfaced bath?
A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Gentle cleaning, no suction mats.
How long does re-enamelling take?
Most baths are done in a day, ready the following day. We’ll confirm timings when we quote.
Can you change the colour of my bath?
Yes, white is the usual choice. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.
Can a failed resurfacing be redone?
Yes. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.
Which areas do you work in?
Everywhere in the UK, Gildingwells included. There is no extra charge for travel.
Is it OK to have pets in the house?
Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. The rest of the house is unaffected.
Do I have to be there?
Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.
Do you resurface freestanding baths?
Yes. Inside and out.
Should you replace it?
Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the whole surface without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Gildingwells. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

How we price bath re-enamelling
Resurfacing from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:
- How easy the damage is to reach
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- The colour and finish to match
- The material
Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.
Getting a price from photos
It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Try to send:
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
- One sharp close-up of the damage
- The material, if you know it
- A photo taken from further back
For a price in Gildingwells, the easiest route is photos: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.
Different materials, different repairs
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.
Acrylic
We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.
Keeping it looking good
So the finish stays in good condition:
- Keep suction mats out of the bath
- Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
- Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
- Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.
On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading and make the job bigger. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.
Work for landlords and builders
We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access and we will handle the rest.
Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.
The process
Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. It normally takes a full day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.
- We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
- We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
- Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
- We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
- The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the next day.
How to prepare
- Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
- Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
- Make sure the area is dry

Related advice
Can I fix it myself?
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.
When to call us in Gildingwells
Older baths frequently have several problems at once: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
- A roll-top that is seen better days
- Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
- A coating lifting around the plughole
What your quote should include
- How soon you can use it again
- Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
- Aftercare advice
- Whether the price covers travel
