Bath re-enamelling for Gomersal homes

Bath re-enamelling in Gomersal, done in place

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. We are often asked to fix a peeling or bubbling previous coating and worn patches where water runs and sits, in pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there is a problem and we’ll come back.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Why repair rather than replace?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, usually one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Gomersal. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • The type of damage
  • The material
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many areas need work

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed price

Phone photos are fine. Ensure they show:

  • One picture of the entire bath
  • The material, if you know it
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Upload pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, and tell us you’re in Gomersal, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Gomersal questions

Does re-enamelling smell?

Some odour is normal while we spray, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It fades as the coating cures.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Can landlords book you?

Yes, often. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Can you quote from photos?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos cannot show what we need.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Will there be a smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, often. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

The process

You do not need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take a full day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

When a repair is not the answer

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • A bath that is rusted through
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

Aftercare tips

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Have chips seen to early
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Never use suction bath mats

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
