Bath re-enamelling in Great Hallingbury without replacing anything

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. Common call-outs are for worn patches where water runs and sits and staining under the taps and around the waste, on pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there is a problem and we’ll come back.

Great Hallingbury: your questions answered

Can you quote from photos?

Usually, yes. Clear photos let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

Do you need to take the bath out?

Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room protected and ventilated.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

The price is fixed for what the pictures show. If there’s more, we’ll tell you before starting.

How long will the bath be out of use?

One day for most baths, ready the next day. We give you timings with the quote.

What happens after I send pictures?

We look at the pictures and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes, frequently. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, frequently. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Do you cover the whole of Essex?

We cover the entire UK, including Great Hallingbury and the rest of Essex. Send your postcode with your photos and we will offer you dates.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Common problems we fix in Great Hallingbury

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is typically as strong as ever.

Contact us if you’ve noticed:

  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating

Questions to ask before booking

  • Aftercare advice
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • What preparation is included
  • How the room is protected while they work

Choosing a repair company

Should you replace it?

If you like your bathroom but not your bath’s surface, resurfacing is the simplest answer. Tiles, panels and taps stay put. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

What you get with us

  • A fixed quote before booking
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Straight answers about what a repair can do

See our full price list or bath cost comparison.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some jobs are not right for a repair, including:

  • A bath that is rusted through
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • What kind of damage it is

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Getting a price from photos

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Where you are, by postcode

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.

How it works

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you know when to expect us. Once we are there, the work takes the best part of a day. We leave the room clean and you’ll know when it can be used.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
