Bath re-enamelling for Harper Bower homes

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

About our bath re-enamelling in Harper Bower

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. If you’re dealing with a bath in a colour that no longer suits and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it, we can help, on Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths alike.

Every job is backed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

When we’d advise against a repair

We will not take on work that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • A bath split right through the body
  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Materials we work on in Harper Bower

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths

Repair or replace: which is better?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

The process

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can carry on at home. Protection goes down first, then the work takes a full day. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Getting ready for the visit

Advice

How to care for the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly

Dry the bath after use if possible, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

Common problems we fix in Harper Bower

Previous coatings can fail too, lifting by the plughole or blistering. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A roll-top that is seen better days

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • Who turns up on the day
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show

Harper Bower questions

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

What areas do you cover?

Across the UK, and that includes Harper Bower. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No, it stays where it is. We work on the bath in place, with the room protected and ventilated.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders across Calderdale.

Are there extra charges for Harper Bower?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

What happens if you find more damage?

Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • What kind of damage it is

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before booking.

Quotes from your pictures

Phone pictures are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Ensure they show:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can price the job.
