Bath re-enamelling near High Ham

Bath re-enamelling at your home in High Ham

We don’t move the bath, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. Most baths are done in one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. If you’re dealing with an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and an old resurfacing that’s failing, we can normally put it right, on basins & shower trays, Victorian roll-tops and cast iron baths alike.

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Somerset.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in High Ham?

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

Clients normally contact us about:

  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it

10 questions to ask before booking

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

What we can’t put right

A repair isn’t right for every job, including:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Steel that has corroded right through

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

High Ham questions

Can pets and children be at home?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. The rest of the house is unaffected.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Most of the time. Tell us what was done before.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Normally a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Will there be a smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working.

Which areas do you work in?

Across the UK, and that includes High Ham. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

In most cases. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No, it stays where it is. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

What affects the price in High Ham

Resurfacing from £350. We price every job individually, from your photos. What matters most is:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The type of damage
  • The material and finish
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. You’ll see the full price before booking, with nothing added on the day.

How to get a fixed price

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • The material, if you know it

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Looking after it afterwards

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Repair or replace in High Ham?

There are times replacing is better: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the entire room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing normally wins. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

What happens on the day

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, protect the area, then carry out the work, which typically takes most of the day. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s normally ready the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
