Bath re-enamelling near Hinton

Bath re-enamelling in Hinton, done in place

Re-enamelling is a one-day job for most baths, and you can use the bath the day after. Nothing is disconnected or removed. We work on acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays, and common reasons people get in touch are a bath in a colour that no longer suits and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will come back.

What your bath is made of matters

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.

How it works

You do not need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take a full day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Respect the curing time we give you

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. This is what makes a difference:

  • The material and finish
  • How many areas need work
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The colour and finish to match

There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Getting a price from photos

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any details about the material
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

For a price in Hinton, photos are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Hinton

Enamel does not fail overnight. Abrasive cleaners, limescale and years of use wear the gloss away, typically first under the taps and around the waste.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • Thin, worn enamel in places

What your quote should include

  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
  • How your room will be protected
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Whether a trained technician does the job

Common questions in Hinton

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Do the materials smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work that clears as it cures.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so let us know about it.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Are there extra charges for Hinton?

We do not add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Typically, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Do you cover the entire of Dorset?

Across the UK. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Are you accredited?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A bath split right through the body

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Repair or replace in Hinton?

A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the entire surface without moving it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.
