Bath re-enamelling in Holwell, done in place

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. If you are dealing with lots of chips and rust spots and a roll-top that’s seen better days, we can normally put it right, on Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and acrylic baths alike.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

When we’d advise against a repair

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths

Holwell: your questions answered

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

Will the new finish last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

What information do you need?

Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No, it stays where it is. We work on the bath in place, with the room protected and ventilated.

Do you charge for travel?

There is no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Resurfacing from £350. Every job gets a fixed quote from your photos. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your SG5 postcode.

Should you replace it?

A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

What happens on the day

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your photos first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. The work itself takes the best part of a day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Holwell?

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and scrubbing it wears it down further. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Most people contact us when they notice something like this:

  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring

Questions to ask before you book

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Fix dripping taps quickly

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.
