About our bath re-enamelling in Kenn

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. Typical jobs include thin, worn enamel in places and a peeling or bubbling previous coating, across cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

What a repair can’t fix

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Holes rusted through the metal

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

What we work on

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. There is no area surcharge for Kenn. The price reflects:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How much damage there is
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • What kind of damage it is

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Kenn. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Any details about the material
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three photos through our quote form or ring us. We’ll tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

How it works

When we visit, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take the best part of a day. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Before we arrive

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

Repair or replace in Kenn?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

How to care for the repair

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Have chips seen to early

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further.
