Repair or replace: which is better?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the whole surface with the bath left where it is. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Why Kings Ripton clients choose us

  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • No need to remove anything
  • Same prices wherever you are
  • One-year guarantee on every repair

Read our prices page and resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

For landlords and businesses

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Kings Ripton use us as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

For anyone letting property in or around Kings Ripton, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send pictures for each address and we’ll price them together.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Kings Ripton

Enamel wears gradually. Years of cleaning, hard water and hot baths dull the surface, normally first under the taps and around the waste.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • Wear marks under the taps
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • An old resurfacing that is failing

Questions to ask before you book

  • Who will actually do the work
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • How long it needs to cure
  • What prep work is covered

Our hiring checklist

When a repair is not the answer

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. You will not pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The material and finish
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Kings Ripton. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Quotes from your photos

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Any details about the material
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can give you a fixed quote.

How it works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together. After that, protection goes down around the work area and we start. It normally takes a full day, and we will keep you posted as we go.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Getting a price

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

Kings Ripton: your questions answered

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit typically costs less than separate visits. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Is there a guarantee?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Do you cover Kings Ripton?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Kings Ripton. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

Yes, we do this regularly. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Can you price it without visiting?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures cannot show what we need.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We come back with a fixed price, plus dates. You are under no obligation.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Dry the bath after use to stop limescale
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, do not pick at it. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.
