About bath re-enamelling in Cambridgeshire

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. We regularly repair pressed steel baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops, and common reasons people contact us are a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring.

You do not need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take most of the day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the day after.

Cost

Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What preparation is included
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface

Give the finish its full curing time before using the bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling

A dull surface stains and holds dirt, and scrubbing it wears it down further. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • Stains that will not shift
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we take into account:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The material
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Send photos for a quote

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Can I fix it myself?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.
