How we handle bath re-enamelling in Kirk Smeaton

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We work on acrylic baths, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths, and the jobs we see most are thin, worn enamel in places and a coating lifting around the plughole.

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Wakefield.

FAQs for Kirk Smeaton

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes, most people go for white. Tell us what you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Will there be a smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working, which fades afterwards.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Will there be fumes?

Yes, while we are applying the finish. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in Kirk Smeaton?

Prices start from £350. We give a fixed quote based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners across Wakefield.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Typically, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from photos. This is what makes a difference:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The material
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How hard the colour is to match

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Send photos for a quote

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Any details about the material

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

What your bath is made of matters

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

What we cannot put right

A repair is not always the answer, and we will tell you before we start. We cannot fix:

  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Why repair rather than replace?

A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the entire surface without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Why book with us

  • Everything repaired in place
  • Usually one visit, start to finish
  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

What happens on the day

Your technician turns up when we said we would, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take a full day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
