What a repair can’t fix

Some jobs are not right for a repair, including:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A bath split right through the body
  • A bath that is rusted through

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

  • Cast iron baths

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Larkhall

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, re-enamelling is normally the most cost-effective option. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Whether it’s an outdated colour you’d like to change and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough, we can normally put it right.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will sort it.

The process

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you are not left guessing. Once we are there, the work takes a full day in most cases. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

What we are called out for in Larkhall

The gloss on enamel is thin, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off

10 questions to ask before you book

Larkhall: your questions answered

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Resurfacing from £350. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from pictures. You will get a fixed figure before booking.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Usually one day, with the bath ready the next day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, frequently. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Is there a call-out fee?

We do not add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

  • Unusual colours or finishes

Photographing the damage takes a minute. Try to send:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • What it’s made of, if you know

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can price the job.

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Have chips seen to early

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time, and each one adds to the preparation. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.

Repairing versus replacing in Larkhall

Replacing a bath normally involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Re-enamelling takes one technician and usually one day, and the bath can be used the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
