When a repair is not the answer

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • A bath that’s rusted through

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Materials we work on in Lightwood

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Lightwood?

Previous coatings can fail too, lifting by the plughole or blistering. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough

10 questions to ask before you book

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Should you replace it?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, with the bath ready the following day. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Why Lightwood customers choose us

  • Colour-matched on site
  • No extra charge for your area
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited

The process

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before any work starts. Most visits take a full day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the next day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Getting a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Advice

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. This is what makes a difference:

  • Access to the area
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How much damage there is
  • Unusual colours or finishes

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Lightwood. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Quotes from your photos

Photographing the damage takes a minute. Please include:

  • Any details about the material
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

We price from pictures so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

How to care for the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Have chips seen to early

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and do not leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.
