Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Llandwrog

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. Typical jobs include an old resurfacing that’s failing and lots of chips and rust spots, in acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Llandwrog and across Gwynedd.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and several days without a working bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the whole surface with the bath left where it is. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Why us?

  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • One visit for most repairs
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Fixed prices from your photos

Read our pricing or resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

When we’d advise against a repair

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A metal bath with a through crack

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Store bottles off the bath

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further.

What we do, step by step

Arrival times are agreed in advance. Once we are there, the work takes the best part of a day. We leave the room clean.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

Common questions in Llandwrog

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. We resurface it in place, so the tiles and taps stay put.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Normally, yes. Clear photos let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

Can pets and children be at home?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Can you repair several things at once?

Of course, and it generally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and you will get one combined price.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. We price every job individually, from your pictures. What matters most is:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How much damage there is

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

How to get a fixed price

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Details of any past repairs
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Natural light rather than flash

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos through our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.
