Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Maxton

Older baths often have several problems at once: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Re-enamelling deals with all of them in one go.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A roll-top that is seen better days
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough

About our bath re-enamelling in Maxton

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. Whether it’s a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and thin, worn enamel in places, we can help.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Fix dripping taps quickly

Dry the bath after use if possible, particularly with hard water, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a bath normally involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, and the bath can be used the day after. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. You will see the full price before you book.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

What we do, step by step

On the day, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take the best part of a day. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Landlord and trade work in Maxton

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Maxton as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it usually costs far less than a refit.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

What a repair can’t fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Questions from Maxton

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Most baths are done in a day and can be used the day after. We give you timings with the quote.

Do you come to Maxton?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Maxton for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Generally, yes. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Mention it when you send photos.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. It’s re-enamelled where it stands, so nothing else is disturbed.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, often. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send photos of everything you’d like done.
